Scientists Take Off Their Lab Coats to Reveal Ink
Remember when tattoos were something only miscreants and outsiders would get? Now everyone’s got one (or more) — from teachers to celebrities to…scientists!
Carl Zimmer, who did a slide show last September for Wired News on the subject, also hosts a blog on the subject. Scientist and researchers send in photos of their geeky ink to be spotlighted on the blog. New snap shots are added a few times a week, so it’s definitely worth adding to your feed.
Most of the ink relates back to the person’s profession, whether it be math equations on someone studying mathematics, strands of DNA on a medical student, or a repaired human heart on a nurse.
My favorite is the universe solar system tattooed on this guy’s chest (pictured, right). “…he jokes that the tattoo is really accurate because, as is the case with his waistline, the universe is always expanding.”
In other tattoo news, have you seen the book Force in the Flesh? It came out last May, but worth a look. It features more than 400 photos of tattoos inspired by Star Wars. The book’s site features a top ten list of the craziest SW tats and I have to say the lightsaber finger tattoos are pretty cool. The NSFW Leia and R2D2 image, on the other hand, is pretty horrifying.
