Women In Technology (WIT) Announces First Live Auction Teams for WITConnect Fundraising Event
march 12, 2008 – atlanta – women in technology (wit), the important association enthusiastic to the advancement of georgia’s businesswomen in the industry, today announced that executive teams from coca-cola, autotrader, ihg, earthlink and equifax wish participate in witconnect ‘08, the organization’s flagship fundraiser, to be held at 5:00 p.m., april 30 at the cobb strength performing arts centre.
The auction gives attendees the opportunity to bid on one-on-one meetings with senior technology executives. Proceeds from the auction funds both WIT and the WIT Foundation, the organization’s philanthropic arm. In 2007, WITConnect awarded a $20,000 scholarship to a deserving Atlanta high school senior. The recipient, a Wheeler High School graduate, is thriving in her second semester at Princeton University.

WITConnect is one of the most effective ways a corporation can support WIT’s mission to deliver programming and philanthropic support to girls and professional women in the community,” says Judi Vitale, president of Women in Technology.
“Organizations like WIT and the WIT Foundation play a vital role in promoting technology leadership and fueling innovation throughout the Georgia community,” said Marianne Johnson, Global Technology New Product Innovation Champion, Equifax. “Equifax is honored to support this valuable organization and we look forward to continuing to work with WIT to grow programs that attract talented women to the technology field.”
WITConnect funds the operation of WIT’s year-round programs and meetings. It also finances WIT’s philanthropy, which has funded more than $150,000 in scholarships to individuals and organizations in Georgia.
In addition to scholarships, WIT Connect funds support:
A sponsorship of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), to fund 12 Georgia high school teams for the 2008 FIRST Robotics Peachtree Regional competition. Teams were selected based on the percentage of girls on the teams.

A partnership with Cool Girls Cool Tech to present technology programs to more than 150 girls in low-income communities. Continued support of the Girls Get IT program, where WIT gives middle and high school girls in metro Atlanta a glimpse of IT careers. In 2008, WIT will reach 300 middle and high school girls by holding 16 technology career workshops and a week-long job-shadowing summer workshop to expose these students to real-world IT jobs. “One of the most important outcomes of these events is to expand the girls’ horizons,” said Susan Solomon of Sherpani Partners, a non-profit educational organization that helps students develop realistic, achievable career goals and partners with the WIT Foundation to present these workshops. “The WIT Foundation plays a critical role in funding these innovative programs, which are already making a difference in these girls’ lives.

WIT Connect ‘08 also supports programs for men and women already in technology careers. In September, WIT will hold its ninth annual Women of the Year in Technology Awards. WIT’s Executive Coaching program, an intensive seminar and coaching series for senior-level professionals, arms these women with tools to rise in their careers. In 2007, WIT held six sessions targeted to these high-potential, successful individuals to help accelerate their career advancement. Another program, WIT Mentoring Circles, uses technology and face-to-face meetings to add skill sets for women entering management positions.
